Police Calls: Woman Kicks in Door, 2 Cars Stolen, 5 Arrests in 2 Days

The Albany police log for June 26-27 includes a woman kicking in the door of a residence and claiming to be the owner, two stolen autos, $25 found on the street, a man arrested after being found passed out on the BART path and four other arrests.

The following information was obtained from the Albany Police Department's daily incident log and its arrest reports.

Wednesday, June 26

Drug arrest – At 5:08 a.m., police arrested a male transient on a bicycle at the end of Buchanan on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine or other controlled substance and possessing drug paraphernalia.

Vehicle theft – At 12:54 p.m., a person in the police lobby reported a vehicle stolen on Cerrito. Disposition: Case report taken.

Car on fire – At 12:52 p.m., police logged a car on fire. The call log says it "occurred at Albany Police on San Pablo." Disposition: Assistance given to outside agency.

Vehicle theft – At 5:49 a.m., police logged a report of vehicle being stolen on Portland. Disposition: Case report taken.

Fraud, theft from an elder arrests – At 2:17 p.m., police arrested an Oakland man and a Temple City man in the 1100 block of Washington on suspicion of fraud and theft from an elderly person. The Oakland man's occupation was listed as "buy/sell cars," and the Temple City man's occupation was listed as "body work/auto repair." The arrests followed a 1:22 p.m. call from a customer at Mechanics Bank who said he was being forced to cash a check. [Editor's note: Albany Patch published an article about this incident on July 4, "Auto-Repair Scam Suspects Arrested in Albany – Police Issue Warning."]

Complaint against police – At 1:54 p.m., police logged a report of a person on Pierce calling the CHP in Contra Costa County saying that his landlord is showing up at the residence unannounced  and taking items from the residence, and that the Albany Police Department would not respond. Disposition: Log note only.

Suspicious activity – At 6:24 p.m., police received a report of a man on a small bike at Kelly Moore Paints on San Pablo pointing an unknown object at passing cars "as though it were a gun, bike part or similar." Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint. A second log entry at 6:33 p.m. referred to this incident and said an officer checked on a pedestrian at R.M.J. Services on San Pablo and that a case report was taken.

Disturbing the peace at Hotsy Totsy – At 11:43 p.m., police logged a report from the owner at the Hotsy Totsy on San Pablo saying that a man in a gray t-shirt and plaid shorts was urinating in public, threatening the reporting party and refusing to leave the bar. Disposition: Responsible/s advised of complaint, will correct situation.

Thursday, June 27

DUI arrest – At 12:35 a.m., police arrested a male engineer from San Francisco at Buchanan and Interstate 80 on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Non-injury accident – At 9:21 a.m., police received a second-hand report of a two vehicles involved in a non-injury accident on Jackson. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Alarm keeps ringing – At 4:03 p.m., police received a report from a person on Curtis saying an alarm has been going since 9:30 a.m. The reporting party would like contact. Disposition: Log note only.

Screaming at kids – At 4:20 p.m., police received a report saying a male on Stannage was screaming obscenities last night and screamed a small kids walking by. The reporting party thinks the subject "is off meds." Disposition: Log note only.

$25 found on street – At 7:19 p.m., a person reported finding $25 on the street at Solano and Talbot. Disposition: Log note only.

Woman kicked in door – At 8:39 p.m., police received a report of a woman kicking in a door and coming into a residence on Cornell saying she is the owner. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Juvenile problem – At 8:40 p.m., police received a report of kids defecating on the roof at Marin school. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Arrests for underage alcohol possession, violating parole, burglary – At 9:12 p.m., police arrested two people at Solano and San Pablo, an Albany male on suspicion of being under 21 in possession of alcohol and violation of probation and a Berkeley male juvenile on suspicion of petty theft and commercial burglary. The arrests followed a report at 8:59 p.m. of a juvenile in a tank top with a tattoo on his right shoulder taking a bag of chips.

Drunk/disorderly arrest – At 10:48 p.m., police received a report of a man in his late 20s lying unresponsive on the ground on the BART path near Brighton. The man, an Albany resident, was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence to an unsafe degree or obstructing a public right of way. ----------------
