Police Calls: Nasty Beggar, 3 Arrests, 4 Things Stolen

The Albany police log for May 8-9 includes a panhandler who entered a cafe and spit on someone and was scaring passers-by, arrests for domestic violence and theft, and thefts of a scooter, bicycle, tricycle and vacuum.

The following information was obtained from the Albany Police Department's daily incident log and its arrest reports.

Wednesday, May 8

Spitting, scary panhandler – At 12:52 p.m., police received a complaint about a man entering a cafe in the 1100 block of Solano Avenue. The man spit on someone and was asking people for money and scaring passers-by. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Lost $650 watch – At 3:09 p.m., police received a report of a lost silver-tone, sapphire-crystal Movado Luno Swiss watch worth $650. It was possibly lost in the reporting party's backyard on Spokane. Disposition: Log note only. 

Scooter stolen – At 10:55 p.m., a person in the police lobby reported that his electrical scooter was taken the day before while parked in front of Albany Pizza on Solano. Disposition: Case report taken.

Thursday, May 9

Domestic violence arrests – At 10:52 a.m. police arrested a male and a female on suspicion of domestic battery resulting in injury at a residence in the 800 block of Adams Street. The male is a resident of the address, and the female is a cashier from Richmond.

Target theft arrest – At 1:33 p.m., police logged a report from Target that a man with items in a cart was recognized as a man who previously threatened employees with a knife at another store. Target has a video of him taking a $400 Dyson vacuum the day before. Police arrested a male bartender from Union City at the store on suspicion of commercial burglary.

Robbery on BART path, female assaulted – At 5:30 p.m., police logged an "assistance to an outside agency" item saying that there was a strong-arm robbery by three men on the BART path behind El Cerrito Plaza on April 21, and that a Cantonese-speaking female was assaulted close to the Fairmount side of the path. Disposition: Log note only.

Auto burglary – At 6:49 p.m., police received a report of break-in of a van sometime before 3 p.m. today on Madison. The side door was found open, and the reporting party wasn't sure if anything was taken. Disposition: Case report taken.

Bike theft – At 7:12 p.m., police received a report of bike whose lock was cut being during the previous hour on San Pablo.

Tricycle theft – At 8:51 p.m., police received a report of tricycle taken at an unknown time from a shared, unsecured garage on Pomona. Disposition: Log note only.
