Sleeping Driver Flips Car at University Village

A man driving through the Village said he fell asleep before crashing his car. Watch a video here of the tow truck turning the vehicle onto its wheels.

A young man driving through fell asleep at the wheel, said police, plowed through a patch of lavender and flipped his car onto the driver's side early Saturday.

The man was alone in the car and managed to climb out, uninjured, through his sun roof, authorities said.

The driver, who was heading north on Jackson Street at Monroe Street, managed to drive up a small tree and turn his car on its side, said Sgt. Chris Olivet of the University of California Police Department.

The car apparently knocked down a signpost at the Village, but no other vehicles were affected.

Police called a tow truck to pull the car back onto its wheels.
