Small Fire Causes Minimal Damage at Da Nang

Despite its small size, the fire generated interest from at least eight local print and broadcast media outlets, according to the Albany Fire Department.

A kitchen fire at a Vietnamese-Thai restaurant on San Pablo Avenue just south of Solano made headlines Tuesday despite it having caused minimal damage, officials said. 

Albany police driving past  around 3:20 a.m. Tuesday spotted smoke from the fire, and alerted the , said Fire on Tuesday night.

The fire also tripped an alarm at Montero's restaurant next door.

A stock pot left cooking on the stove appears to have started the fire, said Jorgensen.

"The pot was probably used to make stock, and they had the heat too high. They forgot to turn it down to a simmer," he said. "It was purely an accident."

The damage did not appear to be extensive. 

"I think it's one of those things where they can clean it up. It was all contained on the stove," said Jorgensen. "The damage is smoke damage."

No one was injured.

Tuesday evening, workers at Da-Nang described the fire as "very small" as they moved food and other items into a nearby vacant storefront to make room for clean-up efforts.

Jorgensen said at least eight different media outlets called the Fire Department on Tuesday about the fire. 

He said the likely reason was that a TV news van was in town when the fire took place, possibly because reporters had attended Monday night's City Council meeting about .
