Sunday Robbery Leaves Vallejo Man Without Camera

A man walking on Solano Avenue near Polk Street on Sunday was robbed of his camera while take photographs near the crest of hill, authorities said Wednesday.

The 70-year-old Vallejo man had parked on Solano to take photographs, said Lt. John Geissberger.

Police said the robber approached the victim from behind, at about 2:45 p.m., and grabbed the camera from the victim's hands. A struggle ensued, and the camera fell to the ground.

The robber picked it up and ran east on Solano to a black car waiting nearby.  The vehicle departed northbound on either Jackson Avenue or Polk. 

Police said the robber was a black man in his 20s, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall and 150-160 pounds. The robber had short black hair and wore a yellow jacket.

Police said the estimated loss from the robbery was $2,000. 

Three others were robbed along the BART path near the El Cerrito border.
