A 16-year-old boy was arrested late Thursday night after evading police in a stolen car and crashing it into the front yard of an El Cerrito home, police said today.

Police said around 11 p.m., El Cerrito police responded to the area of Navellier Street and Potrero Avenue to assist Richmond police officers, who were chasing a stolen vehicle.

At some point during the pursuit, the driver crashed the car into the front yard of a home on Navellier Street, according to police.

The driver and a passenger got out of the car and fled on foot, heading through neighboring backyards.

Officers searched the area but were unable to find the suspects until around midnight, when an officer noticed a suspicious male near the intersection of Richmond Street and Gladys Avenue, according to police.

The officer detained the boy, who was identified by Richmond police as the 16-year-old driver of the stolen vehicle.

He was arrested and taken to juvenile hall in Martinez.
