Two Pedestrians Hit by Car on San Pablo—One Airlifted Unconscious

Two young men, both 20, were taken to local hospitals Saturday after being hit by a car while crossing San Pablo Avenue at Eureka Avenue in El Cerrito, police said.

Two young men, both 20, were hospitalized Saturday night after being struck by a car when they were walking across San Pablo Avenue not far from the Albany border, police said. 

The accident took place about 9 p.m. at Eureka Avenue, said El Cerrito police Sgt. Lauren Caputo. The pedestrians were hit by a Honda Accord going southbound, he said.

One victim was conscious when taken by ambulance to Highland Hospital in Oakland, and the other was unconscious when taken by medical helicopter to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, Caputo said.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, he said.

Police did not release identities of those involved. Caputo said it was too soon in the police investigation to comment on what might have caused the accident.
