Update: Qiu Death Investigation

Toxicology reports on Qiu could come back as soon as Nov. 6.

Toxicology reports for Cathy Qiu's body could return as soon as Nov. 6., said San Mateo County Coroner Robert Foucrault on Tuesday.

Qiu, an Albany High School senior, was found dead on a San Mateo County beach Sunday, Oct. 21. An initial examination of her body was done the following day, and specimen from the examination were sent out 24 hours after that, Foucrault said.

Depending on how many cases the coroner's office is handling, toxicology reports are typically completed in two weeks or more, Foucrault said.

San Mateo County sheriff's spokeswoman Rebecca Rosenblatt Tuesday said the sheriff's office will not have any news to report on Qiu's death investigation until it's completed.

Before the sheriff's office took over the investigation, the Richmond Police Department was investigating Qiu's Sept. 27 disappearance as a runaway juvenile case.

Memorial services for Qiu are planned for Saturday at Sunset View Cemetery, 101 Colusa Ave. in El Cerrito.

The source cited in this announcement states up to 1,400 gallons of herbicide possibly includingRead More Roundup might be used rather than 14,000 gallons of Roundup will be used. Not that I am in favor of dosing the environment with petrochemicals, but I do like to make decisions based on facts. I also have to wonder about the accuracy of the source given that it is an opinion piece rather than an article.

And now for the more balanced reporting: "But U.C. Berkeley wants to remove most of its 22,000Read More eucalyptus and acacia trees, then restore native species like they did in the Claremont Canyon." From this article: http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=news/local/east_bay&id=9107025

If you are upset about how the rightwing has been attacking President Obama with lies and hyperbole,Read More you should be just as upset about how the Green Tea Baggers of OTF are attacking Albany. Their attempt to derail plans we citizens negotiated and agreed to will harm our schools and our quality of life if it succeeds.
