Council Picks New City Manager – Assistant City Manager Penelope Leach

The Albany City Council has selected the city's Assistant City Manager, Penelope Leach, who serves also as director of the Recreation & Community Services Department, as the new City Manager.

The Albany City Council has offered the job of City Manager to Albany's Assistant City Manager Penelope Leach, the city announced this afternoon, Tuesday.

Leach told Patch she accepted the offer.

Leach has also been the director of the city's Recreation & Community Services Department for past six years.

The city's announcement said the formal appointment is subject to contract negotiation and is expected to go before the council next month.

The city hired a search firm to help with its effort to find a replacement for former City Manager Beth Pollard, who retired in August.

"Leach has an extensive career history in local government, including serving as the City of Albany Recreation & Community Services Director for the past six years, as well as the City’s Assistant City Manager," said the city's announcement today.

"The formal appointment is subject to contract negotiation, and is expected to be included as part of a City Council Meeting Agenda in December."
