Honoring 150 Years for Saint Mary's on Council Agenda

Albany, being but 105 years old, doesn't often have occasion to celebrate sesquicentennials, but it will May 6 when the City Council considers a proclamation honoring the 150-history of Saint Mary's College High School.

On the Albany City Council agenda for May 6 is a proclamation honoring 150 years for Saint Mary's College High School.

The measure commemorating the school's "Sesquicentennial Anniversary" traces its origin the 1863 founding of a new Saint Mary’s College on Old Mission Road in San Francisco. The campus included a secondary school.

The proclamation notes the the college and high school moved to "The Brickpile" at Broadway and 30th Street in Oakland in 1889 and that the high school moved again in 1927 to its own campus at its present home at Peralta Park in Berkeley. The site was once occupied by the grand Peralta Park Hotel.
