Lafayette Ponders New BART Location for Farmers Market

Supporters say the Lafayette Plaza location was a little too cramped and surrounded by traffic to be viable. They're hoping a new location in the Lafayette BART parking lot will be the answer for people looking to buy fresh fruit and vegetables.

A well-attended Farmers Market held on a trial basis at Lafayette Plaza last year proved a little too cramped and hemmed in by traffic, organizers maintain. They hope a new location in the BART parking lot proves to be more successful.

The Lafayette City Council supports the idea, but is attempting to work out some issues with signage for the weekly events.

Should be plenty of room on Sunday and I like the idea of combining it with an antiques show of some kind.

Hmmm, if it's Sunday then why not consider the Lafayette Community Park—or a nice setting? Not really lovin' the idea of my family "enjoying" getting through weekend downtown traffic to enjoy time at the Bart parking lot. It's not like the SF setup where, yes—it's a parking area—but there are amazing views and places to sit/enjoy the sites while eating a bite of lunch. And as an aside—we frequented the weekday farmer's market because we could stock up on produce pre-weekend—and separate that from Sunday night shopping for the week. I know we wouldn't be hitting shopping twice, two locations, two different times of the same day. Just wouldn't happen. Don't want to spend "all" day Sunday shopping.

if there is no nicer open space with good parking, and it is in the far reaches of the parking lot that sits empty on weekends anyway, i think it is a reasonable idea.

Love this idea!

I think it'll be a much better location. The current locale is too cramped, causes too much traffic congestion at our busiest intersection, and the one way streets don't make it easily accessible for people that must use their cars.
