Pierce St. Park Plan Goes to Council

A draft plan for the first phase of the planned Pierce Street Park in Albany will go before the City Council on April 1. The first phase is estimated to cost $632,819, according to the staff report.

At its next meeting on April 1, the Albany City Council will consider the first step for developing the planned Pierce Street Park, located next to Pierce along Interstate 80 north of Washington Street.

The 4.5-acre parcel was purchased by the city from Caltrans in June 2011 for creating a park, bicycle/pedestrian trail and maintenance center.

Based on past council direction to take a phased approach, city staff has prepared a draft plan for the first phase, estimated to cost $632,819.

Because the site includes a level area surrounded by steep slopes, the first phase includes grading, according to the staff report prepared for the council. The report is attached to this article.

The first phase also includes the Pierce Street Plaza and planting for erosion control. Later phases would include pathways, a multi-use field, a lower plaza, lighting and landscaping
