Portland Sidewalk Closed Near Masonic for BART Work

The sidewalk has been closed so BART work crews can retrofit support column nearest Portland Avenue. Click the green "Keep me posted!" button for updates when we post about BART retrofitting.

A short stretch of sidewalk on Portland Avenue, between Masonic and San Gabriel avenues, is now closed for construction. 

BART work crews, who are , are now working on the column closest to the sidewalk on the north side of Portland. Some of the retrofitting work needs to be done under the sidewalk, said Nathan Hood, a BART representative.

The sidewalk is expected to remain closed for a month, Hood said.

A path for pedestrians has been marked with orange cones. Many and students use this route to and from school. 

A section of sidewalk along Marin Avenue, between Masonic and Key Route Boulevard, will close soon for the same reason.

And in early 2012 the sidewalk along the south side of Portland, near Masonic, will close.

Hood said that BART still expects to complete the first part of its work, from Brighton Avenue to Portland, in February.
