State Seeks to Return Millions in Undelivered Tax Refunds

You may have an income tax refund waiting for you. In Alameda County, the state has $440,000 in refunds seeking their owners.

Bay City News Service -- The state Franchise Tax Board is urging Bay Area residents who may have moved or not updated their addresses to check if the state owes them any income tax refunds.

In Contra Costa and Alameda counties, the board wants to return more than $254,000 and $440,000, respectively.

Nearly $496,000 is owed to San Francisco County taxpayers, while more $590,000 in tax returns went undelivered in Santa Clara County.

Taxpayers expecting a state refund that has yet to arrive can check their status at https://www.ftb.ca.gov/online/myacct/.

Those who have moved and have not yet updated their address can also do so online. The board reissues returned refunds automatically once a new address is filed.

When filing future tax returns, the board advises using direct deposit to avoid mailing complications.

This year, according to officials, more than six million Californians received more than $6.2 billion in tax returns that went directly to their bank accounts.

In all, by the end of November, the board issued more than 10
million refunds worth about $10 billion.
