A group of about four dozen homeless people living at the Albany Bulb and their supporters marched from the Bulb early this evening, Tuesday, to Albany City Hall to protest the city's plan to evict them from the site.

Tonight's City Council agenda includes a time for further public input on the issue and a review of the council's decision in May to begin enforcing the city's no camping ordinance at the Bulb in October.

The longterm plan of the city and the McLaughlin Eastshore State Park is to turn operation of the Bulb over to the East Bay Regional Park District to be part of the park. Under a $30,000 contract approved by the council, The Berkeley Food and Housing Project this summer has been trying to help the estimated 50-70 people living in makeshift camps on the Bulb find alternative housing.

The council later voted 4-1 to reaffirm its plan to evict the homeless from the Bulb by asking police to begin enforcing the city's no-camping ordinance next month. The the Patch article "Council Reaffirms Plan to Remove Albany Bulb Homeless Next Month."
