A broad range of impacts are slated to be considered, including aesthetics, air quality, water quality, biological and cultural resources, geology and soils, traffic and transportation, and greenhouse gas emissions, according to the park district.

Public comments on the review, such as on what should and shouldn’t be included, are welcome at a “preparation and scoping” session:

The review process will be detailed at the meeting.

Last year, the park district revealed its plan for major renovations at , the southern neck of the bulb (the rounded peninsula north of the beach), and the stretch of coastline from the beach to Gilman Street in Berkeley, alongside .

All of this land falls within the Eastshore State Park, and is managed by the park district.

Proposed work, which is still being shaped, includes new and improved trails, beach and wetlands enhancement, vegetation management, improved parking and disability access, and public restrooms.

A public meeting on the plan held last year from Albany residents, some who want the area to remain wild and off-the-beaten path, others who appreciate what they consider improvements.

What do you think should be included in an environmental review of beach plans? Tell us in the comments. (But remember that comments you'd like considered about the scoping of the EIR must be submitted to the park district via the contact info listed above.)
