Whole Foods Project Council Meeting Set for July 9

The Albany City Council will hold a special meeting July 9 to discuss several key aspects of a mixed-use project the University of California hopes to develop at University Village. Click "Keep me posted" below for updates.

City officials will hold a special meeting in July to determine the next steps the University of California will need to take to develop a at . 

The meeting, set for 7:30 p.m. on July 9 at the Community Center, will focus on the project's , zoning amendments and Planned Unit Development designation, and the possibility of relaxing open space and parking requirements. 

The project is set to straddle Monroe Street just west of San Pablo Avenue, with the grocery store to the north and the senior housing complex to the south.

Albany's Planning & Zoning Commission has recommended that the council , though numerous considerations, such as design review, have yet to be decided.

Environmental Impact Report, Zoning Amendments & Planned Unit Development, Development Agreement, Density Bonus 

The 6.3-acre University Village project site is located on the west side of San Pablo Ave. and includes the parcels located north and south of the Monroe Street/San Pablo Avenue intersection. The applicant seeks approval to construct a new 55,000 sq. ft. grocery store on the north side of Monroe St. and a mixed-use retail space and senior living project on the south side of Monroe St. The Planning and Zoning Commission recommends that the City Council approve certification of the Environmental Impact Report, zoning map amendments, zoning text amendments, planned unit development, development agreement, and density bonus.
