The Bulb: 'Report Back' on Bulb Gathering

I have been urged to report back on the Bulb event of September 28th.  Well, I wasn't there . . . from the Patch's picture, it looked pretty innocuous - not much bigger than usual Thursday afternoon pizza party.  The new graffiti on the Heron sculpture (see my last post) seems to be the only public 'work product' of the event so far.

But, in addition to the Patch piece, something calling itself keepthebulbwild (heh) posted a report, including the following intriguing tidbit "The legal team came to the meeting with a very interesting announcement. An agreement was reached that will give residents a 7-day warning before they are evicted. Participants in the assembly thought that a week is enough time to plan and execute a response to the threat of an eviction."  Read the whole thing here:   https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2013/09/30/18744120.php

Is a lawsuit the contemplated 'response' of the participants - lawyers, campers, Occupiers, anarchists?  Maybe, maybe not.  Law talk is usually not very motivating, but at least one attendee found the event inspirational.  In case you can't read the screenshot above, it includes a post from a young man (not a camper, to my knowledge) who remarks "After tonight I only have one thing to say... Fuck the pigs and fuck the Albany City Council. DEFEND THIS SPACE!!!!"

Few of the campers that I have met seem like the kind of people who could or would join in whatever action this young man might have in mind.   Some seem quite fragile - elderly, ill, and/or suffering from untreated mental illness.  Hopefully these people will have the foresight - and the help that they need. from the combined efforts of Berkeley Food & Housing, the Solano Community Church, and the Albany Community Foundation -  to make their way off the Bulb sooner rather than later.   Sadly, it looks like this might still become a bumpy ride.
