Protesters Camped Out at Solano and Santa Fe

A couple of dozen protesters are hanging out at the intersection of Solano and Santa Fe, in front of the California Bank & Trust.  They look more like the young Gil Tract 'farmers' than like Bulb campers.   All seems peaceful, no apparent Occupy or anarchist 'branding', and only a couple of tents and a few bedrolls in evidence - which suggest that most will be going home to sleep in their own beds.

Perhaps these young people would be willing to contribute some of their energy, intelligence, and higher education to help find appropriate living situations for campers who want to get indoors?   I am afraid the answer is probably "no".  A camper who becomes an active seeker of housing and services is no longer a figure of either defiance or victimization, and so is probably no longer useful to the 'cause' of rebellion.  So I am not optimistic that any actual help for any camper will be forthcoming from this group.

Campers who seek housing and/or services can still turn to the City of Albany, Berkeley Food & Housing, the Solano Community Church, and the Albany Community Foundation for help.  But time is surely running out, and with lawsuits and demonstrations encouraging the campers to stay put, the prospects are dimming that campers will have the motivation they will need to make transitions that will have positive impacts on their lives.

At this point, perhaps the best we can hope for is that whenever resumption of enforcement of the anti-camping regulations begins, there will be homeless shelter beds available to all who seek them, and that more positive outcomes for the campers can begin from there.
