Built in 1950, the Albany Pool was a central and much-loved community resource in the city until it closed in December 2008 in preparation for last year's demolition. Sorely in need of an upgrade, and found to contain toxic chemicals, the pool was torn down in July 2009. It could re-open as early as summer 2011, according to the current timeline.
