has received our 2010-11 . Each spring, students in grades two through eleven take a STAR test. The STAR Program looks at how well schools and students are performing. Students take tests in math, reading, writing, science, and history. Albany Schools in all grade and subject matter areas.

Albany School District’s API scores (Academic Performance Index) continue to trend upwards. API is a single number, ranging from a low of 200 to a high of 1000, which reflects a school’s performance level, based on the results of statewide testing. Cornell Elementary, Marin Elementary, MacGregor High and Albany High increased their API scores, while Ocean View Elementary and Albany Middle School lost a little ground. All of our elementary schools have API scores above 900. Albany Middle School and Albany High School both scored above 850.

Albany Schools are also measured for adequate yearly progress. The Federal targets are that 67% of all tested students must score proficient or above in English Language Arts and 67.3% in Mathematics. Albany Unified School District and each individual school must also demonstrate a growth of at least 1 point or a minimum API score of at least 710.

The district and all schools API scores are well above the required 710. But we have some groups of students who have not achieved the required proficiency rates. This is the case for . In English Language Arts, English language learners and students with disabilities did not achieve 67% proficiency. In Mathematics, socioeconomic disadvantaged students and students with disabilities did not achieve 67.3% proficiency. This has placed Albany Middle School into “Year 1 Program Improvement” status. District staff and Albany Middle School is working on a plan to improve the academic achievement for all students.
