Joel Salatin Lecture on Symbiotic Farming

Joel Salatin, a third-generation alternative farmer in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, is coming to Berkeley to talk about symbiotic farminglocal food, and the ethical and spiritual thread that “connects the field to the plate.” Joel’s family farm, Polyface Farm, is an innovative model of community-supported agriculture that seeks to develop emotionally, economically, and environmentally sustainable agricultural enterprises. Joel and his farm are featured in the movies Fresh and Food Inc, and in Michael Pollan’s book The Omnivore's Dilemma.

Joel will be giving an evening program consisting of two talks and a question and answer period. The first talk will address issues of sustainable farming and eating. In the second talk, Joel will discuss how his faith relates to his farming practice.

The talks will take place starting at 7pm  in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church in Berkeley (2407 Dana St.). One ticket buys entry to both talks plus the Q&A period. We will start punctually, so please arrive on time!

Evening Schedule:
7:00 Intro and first talk
7:45 Q&A
8:10 Second talk
9:00 Event ends

Tickets may be purchased here for $10/$5 student with a valid ID. Online tickets may be purchased by credit cards for a small convenience fee. Tickets are sold out, but you may add yourself to the waiting list or make a donation on the ticket sales page.   All event proceeds will benefit local food justice organizations People's Grocery and the Oakland Food Connection.

Parking: Parking is at a premium in downtown Berkeley. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time for traffic and to find a parking space. A limited amount of paid parking is available in the church garage (this does not constitute an official church event) and at other area garages. More detailed parking information and directions are available here.
