Fourth, Fifth Graders to Switch Schools by Sept. 17

The district sent letters home earlier this week with the intended changes.

The Albany Unified School District has asked many parents to volunteer to move their fourth and fifth graders to classrooms at other schools, according to letters that went home earlier this week.

Fourth graders from Cornell Elementary and Ocean View will shift to Marin Elementary and fifth graders from Marin will shift to Ocean View Elementary, according to the letter.

If the district doesn't receive enough volunteers, it will look at enrollment dates to make decisions.

The moves are the result of overenrollment in some classrooms, which requires the district to create new classrooms to fix the ratio.

Parents should contact principals by Monday, Sept. 13, if they are interested in a transfer.

The new classrooms are scheduled to begin Sept. 17.
