Albany High Discussion on Drug Use Comes March 10

A similar information night happened March 2 at Albany Middle School.

The will hold an information night Thursday to let youth and parents talk about drug use, after  in local schools in February, in which six students got sick after eating what have been described as marijuana baked goods.

The high school will hold a panel discussion with several speakers and a question and answer segment the evening of Thursday, March 10, at Albany High.

Substance abuse prevention expert Ralph Cantor spoke at a parent and student information night Wednesday, March 2, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the middle school library.

Police said they arrested a 17-year-old Albany High student Feb. 1 on suspicion of a "marijuana-related violation" in connection with marijuana baked goods in Albany schools. 

There have been four similar drug-related incidents at  and  since Jan. 31. All the incidents involved baked goods described by school principals as brownies or cookies.

The high school incidents happened Jan. 31 and Feb. 4, and both involved 14-year-old boys, said Albany Unified School District  earlier. One of the boys later ended up going to the hospital.

On Feb. 1, there was an incident at Albany Middle School involving three boys, ages 12 to 13. Paramedics were called to attend to two, who were later released to their parents.

On Feb. 7, a 13-year-old Albany Middle School girl was taken to the hospital after eating one of the pot-laced baked goods.
