Cougars Romp to 56-0 Victory in Homecoming Game

There were many chances to cheer at Albany High's homecoming game Friday night as the Cougars scored touchdown after touchdown in a 56-0 victory over the Dons of De Anza High.

The Albany High Cougars celebrated homecoming in a big way Friday night with a 56-0 triumph over De Anza High.

A sizable number of fans cheered from the Albany bleachers at Cougar Field as the Cougars demonstrated a convincing command of the field.

Albany held a lopsided 30-0 margin at half time, which was immediately boosted when Jack Johnson returned the opening kickoff of the second half for a touchdown, the Bay Area News Group reported.

Johnson also had several rushing touchdowns, while quarterback Nick Sternad ran for one touchdown in addition to several throwing scores, BANG reported.

It was the Cougars' second victory of the season, following last week's 34-12 triumph over Richmond High.

For Albany fans, the victory was an exciting climax to a week of homecoming festivities at the school, including what the Facebook page of The Cougar, the school paper, called the "nail-biting Powder Puff finals" on Wednesday, in which the seniors edged out a 15-14 victory over the juniors.
