Join Albany's Great Unleashing on May 22

You're invited to a community brainstorm next Sunday, May 22, to plan actions to reduce Albany's CO2 emissions, increase our connections with each other, and make Albany more resilient to change.

would like to invite YOU to take part in a community brainstorm on Sunday next, May 22, about actions we can take as a community that will reduce Albany's carbon emissions, increase our sense of connection with each other, and generally make Albany more resilient to change.

The event is , organized by a small team who are eager to get Transition Albany moving along.

A true Transition Town has active groups working on practical projects in all kinds of areas:

  • to increase food production, local energy production, low-carbon transportation options
  • revive knowledge of how to build with local materials and other useful skills that many of us have forgotten
  • devise alternative means of exchange, independent of the dollar, and a health system that can take care of us independent of pharmaceutical giants if need be
  • find ways to reduce use of consumables that come from far away and produce more of our own essentials (including using rain water and "grey water" more effectively)
  • provide a place for people to express their feelings about the pressing need to change our lifestyles.

Some of this is already well established in Albany, but there are gaps, and we hope to begin to fill these on Sunday 5/22, while strengthening existing groups. Whatever your interest or passion, you will find a lot of engaging discussions going on.

You can see the full program on our website. We invite YOU to come and add your voice to the free-form, "Open Space" discussion during the afternoon and listen to Richard Heinberg speak on The End of Growth (and what's next!) in the early evening. The last part of the program has AshEL SeaSunZ with a message particularly for our youth and a community country dance session with Albany's own contra dance band, Crow for Day (they're my neighbors and they're hot!).
