Festivities Set For Albany's Fourth of July Celebration

The Independence Day party includes a Diaper Derby, Pet Contest, Facial Hair Contest, and more.

The city’s annual at Memorial Park will have fun and games for all ages.

The event, which last from noon to 4 p.m., will feature many of the usual acts, like the East Bay Vivarium Reptile Show and the 4th of July Pet Show.

The will host a classic car show from noon to 3 p.m. (Registrations are still being accepted. .)

Unlike previous July 4 celebrations when all food was provided by local nonprofits, this year’s event will also have food from four local vendors, said event coordinator Chelle Putzer.

Boffo Cart, Fist of Flour, Skylite Snowballs and Tamales Oaxaca will have food trucks at the park throughout the day, and lunch can be topped off with free ice cream from the at 1:55 p.m.

For those in need of a patriotic breakfast, the will also be holding their annual Pancake Breakfast in the from 8 to 11 a.m. 

Putzer said the city is working with vendors and nonprofits to reach the goal of being a zero-waste event by using compostable plates and utensils and promoting recycling.

The is back for its second appearance at the Independence Day celebration, and will begin at 2 p.m. There will be races for four different age groups of infants, and participants must register at least half an hour before the derby.

For kids, a dunk tank, an obstacle course, jump houses, a rock wall, and more will be available all day with the purchase of a $5 Fun Band.

The celebration will wrap up with Family Games like a three-legged race and an egg toss from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The City of Albany Recreation & Community Services Department invites you to attend the 4th of July Green, Red, White & Blue Celebration in Memorial Park. By "Green", we mean our goal is to have a zero-waste event , using compostable plates & utensils and by recycling cans & paper goods, etc.

Stop by the Albany Lion's Pancake Breakfast in the Veterans Memorial Building. They will be serving up breakfast from 8:00-11:00 am.

The 4th of July event begins at 12:00 am and will end at 4:00 pm. Check back here for a schedule of events. The event will feature food from local food trucks and fun for the whole family!

Who's got the fastest baby in town? Our first Diaper Derby last year was a huge success! Divisions: Crawlers: 6-10 months (10 feet), Crawlers: 11+ months (15 feet), Tippy Toe Toddlers: 11-24 months, Tippy Toe Toddlers: 24-30 months. Register at the Diaper Derby table.

The APAL Classic Car Show will be on Portland Ave between noon and 3:00. Be sure to come by an see some amazing cars. You can still register your car. Registration forms can be downloaded on the APAL web site, www.albanypal.net
