Gallery: World Dance Camp at the Ashkenaz

Ethnic dance camp at Ashkenaz takes students around the world for a week.

DanceVersity World Dance camp held its end-of-the-week performance Friday, Aug. 10, with campers performing Bollywood, Persian, Egyptian and Israeli dances. Last week the campers learned dances from the Americas: Afro-Haitian, Brazilian Samba, Afro-Peruvian and Jazz. Next week’s dances come from Africa and Europe.

The camp, located at Ashkenaz on San Pablo Avenue for the past eight years, runs for three weeks every August, each week focusing on different dance styles from around the world. Classes are taught by specialists in each style.

Danceversity also offers Monday classes for 7- to 17-year-olds during the school year. For information see www.danceversity.com.
