Dear Parents,
A number of parents have inquired as to the safety and well-being of the students that visited from Haga Junior High School back in November. Ms. Uyeda, our teacher-librarian, received this message from one of the teachers from Haga.

As a school we are working to support the people of Japan during this difficult time. There is information in this week's Clarion on how to support the victims of this devastating earthquake/tsunami.

Thank you for your support.

Principal
Albany Middle School

Subject: Thsnk you very much.

Dear Stacy,

Thank you very much for your thoughts and sympathy.

I have given your message to our school principal and he is very appreciative of your support. However, he also said that our school has very minimal damage. As a result, if you would like to make a donation, then we strongly believe your donation would be better used in the more seriously damaged areas of this disaster (the Tohoku area of Japan).

Again, we highly appreciate your kind offer, however we must decline as there are parties much more deserving of your generous donation.

On a positive note, all students have returned to school today and resumed their regular school life.

Please tell the homestay families that we are all well and doing our best given the difficult situation in Japan now.

We would all like to thank you again for your kindness and support, and look forward to hearing from you again soon. The next time we contact each other, I really hope to give you better news about the situation in Japan.

With warmest regards from all at Haga Junior High School,

Kotomi Tsukada

how to help (From "cobra clarion #27," March 16)

In honor of the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Albany schools will be flying our flags at half-mast. The AMS Library is collecting donations to help earthquake and tsunami victims in Japan. Cash or checks may be brought to the Library (checks made payable to "JCCCNC," the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California, a non-profit that will donate 100% of its contributions directly to Japan). Students also are folding origami cranes in the Library to be sent to our sister school in Japan, Haga Jr. High. Please see Ms. Uyeda with any questions.
