At the Sawmill (And Free Mulch Giveaway Tip)

Short note on a rainy day - about compost and pallets.

The rain is coming down in steady fashion. It is grey and very London out. There is a pallet leaning against the white dumpster.

Did you know that wood's number one usage is the making of pallets? That seems a pity since most pallets are discarded after off-loading. Few companies re-use the wooden platforms. A friend mentioned that they are great for bonfires, but that seems outdated and nails do not burn.

Gardens are on the cusp. This rain is very helpful for some aspects of horticulture, not so good for plants with fungal problems. It's not a perfect world. I understand that the City of Albany is handing out tons of free mulch on May 6 as part of the . I spoke with the urban forester and he said some trees may be available as well.

This compost is delivered on pallets, so there will be some pallets to be had as well. This is all to the good. Perhaps we shall all be gardeners and we can all use one of my favorite words - cornucopia.
