'Music in the Park' Returns Wednesday Night

Albany's annual "Music in the Park" – performances in Memorial Park on Wednesday nights in September – resume this week. First up is Tommy Castro & the Painkillers. "Bring a picnic & a blanket!" the city notice says. "Bring family! Bring a friend!"

Albany kicks off its 10th season of "Music in the Park" this Wednesday night, Sept. 4, featuring live performances in Memorial Park every Wednesday from 6:30-8 p.m.

This year's line-up of free concerts – coordinated by the city's Recreation & Community Services Department and funded by Target – are: 

September 4:
Tommy Castro & the Painkillers: Soulful bluesman and Bay Area favorite

September 11: 
The Larry Vann Band: Smooth soul with a taste of R&B and a sprinkle of New Orleans grooves – his own brand of “root music…

September 18: 
Bangers & Grass: Albany/El Cerrito’s world-renowned Bluegrass all-stars

September 25:
Stompy Jones: San Francisco-based sextet, renowned for their jumpin’ rhythm, wailing improvisation, hip charm, retro style and explosive stage show.

"Bring a picnic & a blanket!" the city announcement says. "Bring family! Bring a friend! It's Music in the Park time again."
