For those who want to stretch their legs and arms and lungs – or have fun watching others do so – the 6th Albany Community Triathlon takes place Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Albany pool and Memorial Park.

The annual event this year features a 400-meter swim, a 10-kilometer bike ride and a 3-kilometer run.

"Take it fast or slow, you will improve your fitness and have a great time," says the event listing

"Registrants will get a t-shirt and water bottle, plus a nifty REI Coupon," says Peggy McQuaid's blog.

"All proceeds will go to the Albany High School Athletic Department for benefit of all teams," McQuaid writes. "In addition to the fund raising, this event is designed to be beginner-friendly and is a great venue for first-timers to experience what it's like to do a multi-sport event. If you have always wanted to participate in a triathlon, but felt intimidated at the prospect, this is the one for you."
