Steinbeck Debunker at Berkeley Library on Saturday

Bill Steigerwald, whose book "Dogging Steinbeck" challenges the veracity of John Steinbeck's non-fiction classic, "Travels With Charley," will speak at the Berkeley Library Saturday with Ethan Casey, author of "Home Free: An American Road Trip."

The writer who lays claim to exposing falsehoods in John Steinbeck's classic non-fiction tale, Travels with Charley, will speak Saturday afternoon at the Berkeley Public Library.

Bill Steigerwald's book, Dogging Steinbeck, retraced the Nobel Prize-winning author's route and reflects the author's surprise and indignation at what he found.

He will appear with writer Ethan Casey at a free 3 p.m. presentation at the main library called "Two Authors, Two Road Trips, Two Americas."

Casey's book, Home Free: An American Road Trip, describes his 18,000 mile trip through 21st-century America.

Steigerwald described his discoveries in a blog post:

"I found out the great author’s iconic 'nonfiction' road book was a deceptive, dishonest and highly fictionalized account of his actual 10,000-mile road trip."
