Under the direction of Chief Marc McGinn, the Albany Fire Department offers fire protection, emergency and disaster response, paramedic services and community education. Firefighters in the department, which has two ambulances, also function as Albany's Emergency Medical Services providers.

Courses offered by the Fire Department include CPR, first aid, home safety, earthquake preparedness and search and rescue offerings. The department also has a smoke detector installation program, sponsors a junior firefighter program and is available for blood pressure screening for any Albany resident.
