The Western Regional Research Center is a division of the USDA's Agricultural Research Service (ARS), the chief scientific research agency for the USDA. The center conducts specific research to enhance the healthfulness and availability of foods by studying crop protection, plant genetics, animal health and safety and human nutrition amongst other studies. Its goal is to develop new food and industrial products from renewable resources, and to protect and enhance the quality of the environment.
