Owner Monier Attar moved to the U.S. from Iran shortly after the 1979 revolution imposed restrictions on women and the government closed her pastry shop for her refusal to veil herself. Monier moved her family to Berkeley and began making Persian pastries for a local bakery, then in 1988, after relocating to Albany, she opened Zand's (her married name) to sell her own pastries, Persian and Mediterranean meals and imported ingredients. Visit the Zand's website to find out more about this charming bakery and market.
