I think "Biergarten" may be a bit of a misnomer. That lot is not as big as it seems. I can…Read More see one food truck parked on the property, a fire pit, some table and chairs. Maybe one or two other trucks parked on the street. It seems more intimate, certainly smaller than Off the Grid. Crowd management may be an issue. Liquor license, naturlich?

(whoops, sorry, it's tomorrow, Saturday, yes, but that's 4/27.)
Ross Stapleton-Gray April 26, 2013 at 06:18 pm
Would that be the ABGSL that's having an all-day mid-season playoff for its older division (grades…Read More 6-9) teams tomorrow, Saturday 4/26? With some seven games played on the two diamonds at Cougar Field, behind Albany MIddle School (off Brighton, parking behind the school via the driveway near the BART tracks), starting at 9am? Hours of thrilling competition and all that? And welcoming any girl who might be considering playing ball next year to come and watch? That ABGSL?

Hi folks - I just would like to clarify some misconceptions here among the comments.
The most…Read More recent Safeway plans had little to do with the requests of any advocacy group you have mentioned. The changes that were made to come up with those plans were due in large part to the concerns of nearby residents.
Albany Strollers & Rollers' input in this project was focused on safe cyclist, pedestrian and transit-user access, and ensuring that there was sufficient and safe bike parking (which, as Anne Bingham Goess mentions, was ample.)
Over the life of the project we communicated with both groups of developers (the firm changed mid-project) and the groups had been working together to address our concerns.
Anne Bingham Goess April 29, 2013 at 01:26 pm
I don't think there was ever a question of planning "only for bike and pedestrian needs"…Read More in the Safeway plan, was there? There was ample parking provided for in that plan, as I remember.
We also live a block and a half from Safeway, and I use my grocery cart to run to the store every few days. When we lived in Europe we shopped that way, and we appreciated not having to store large amounts of goods (not to mention getting the additional exercise).
We are so disappointed with the Safeway decision. The current store and parking lot are an eyesore, and I feel like I take my life in my hands every time I walk across the parking lot to enter the store!
Tanya Colli April 15, 2013 at 06:31 pm
Hi, It's Tanya Colli from Ivy Room. Since our bar is at the same corner as this great little…Read More farmer's market, we will have our bartenders mix up cocktails made from the fresh ingredients at the market. If you come into Ivy Room with your farmer's market basket, just hand one of your ingredients to the bartender and they'll mix up a custom cocktail on the spot. Happy shopping :)

I don't think there's anything illegal about asking for donations. If this medical group is not a…Read More nonprofit organization, then donors will not be able to take a tax deduction for their donation--that's all.
Stewart Gooderman April 16, 2013 at 04:22 am
Unfortunately you don't understand what HIPAA is. The "P" stands for…Read More "portability." The idea is to make your data available to you wherever you go. The only way to do that is to digitize the data in formats that all computers can see. All medical professions will be REQUIRED to institute these databases by 2014, unless another delay extends the drop dead date. These programs are not only complex but because they are not used by the general public, a very expensive to create and are therefore very expensive to purchase. And don't blame the Affordable Health Care Act for this. HIPAA was instituted long before AHCA became law.

Unless they are registered as a charitable organization, it is probably illegal for them to be…Read More asking for "donations." The IRS would probably like to hear about this.
Also, who asked them to put patient records into a database? Probably not the patients! That should be an "opt-in option" because it potentially violates patient privacy. The opt-in should be applicable at both the local and federal level. It is rather outlandish that medical offices think they have the right to database all our info (and likely SHARE it with anyone who asks for it). Whatever happened to HIPPA? And if you've ever seen some doctor notes (many of which are padded to sound "convincing" to the insurance companies/Medicare), you definitely would like to have some say over what is done with them!

I have actually tried to back out of this What's For Work Promotion because I have taken the…Read More volunteer route for finding a job. When I tried to do that from their website, I was sent to a page that was down. Hm. (I will try that again.) When I sent a message to the email address that Patch provided, it was ignored. I don't want them to try and charge me once the free trial period is up, and I consider this my third attempt to detach myself from this program. Patch? Can you help me with this?
Becky Milczarek March 31, 2013 at 06:16 pm

People who use Urban sitter obviously have more money than some of the rest of us do. My husband and…Read More I don't go out a lot, but when we do we pay $10-12/hour. When my child is sleeping, and my sitter is watching tv, I can't justify paying the sitter more than that.

I remember this as being Dr Stalloni's office and living quarters. It is nice to see that the…Read More building with its bay windows is still in tack and the artful way that it is painted lends itself to really make the features stand out. With that much color (well done) on the outside the array of color on the inside with a wonder to behold. Not ever being at the shop personally just looking at the pics here I definitely would love to visit when I venture down to my old home town, Albany, California. Been a number of years since I have been there and was a little taken back by the changes. I was born in Albany hospital 74 yrs ago tomarrow the 9th of March. I lived 18 yrs on Key Route Blvd and another 20+ on Brighton. My 4 children went to Albany schools as did my sister and I. Great place to live sorry Albany you have gotten to expensive to live there again. Do miss you though and glad I can now travel a couple hours to visit. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Whole Foods is overpriced and not a store that I shop at. I currently do most of my grocery shopping…Read More at Berkeley Bowl West and occasionally at Safeway (preferably Shattuck Ave as it is renovated and enlarged) for paper products and other items that are much cheaper than at BBW. The issue of a store not being in Albany is totally irrelevant to me.
Michael Elder March 4, 2013 at 02:20 am
We will still go to Trader Joes for essentials, Costco for our bulk items and Lucky's in El Cerrito…Read More Plaza for things neither have avoiding Whole "Wallet" Foods, Gillman and that end of San Pablo Avenue.
Sue Douglass March 3, 2013 at 10:50 pm
I shop mainly Lucky's because it is a union store. Probably very few Whole Foods visits from me.

Of course I am right. And I was right three days ago.
Here is the text of the original article, for…Read More those who are tuning in late.
"After a lengthy renovation, a Vietnamese restaurant has reopened in Albany.
Pho Huong Nam started serving up dishes again on Friday. It had been closed for a couple of months for an interior and exterior sprucing up.
The restaurant at 938 San Pablo Ave. features rice dishes, sandwiches, salads, noodles, broths and other menu items."
