The Ohlone Greenway was first used by the Santa Fe Railroad in 1904. In 1964, BART broke ground and the Fremont line opened in 1972. The Richmond line opened in 1973 after a delay by the Berkeley voters, who decided to tax themselves to put the line underground and opened the Transbay Tube in 1974.
