Ohlone Greenway Park

The Ohlone Greenway runs about one mile from Brighton Avenue almost all the way to Gilman Street and spans 8.89More acres. The park features a bike and walking path and an old exercise course. In 2009, the Greenway was the running course for the City of Albany's 4th of July Dog Jog.</p> <p>The Ohlone Greenway was first used by the Santa Fe Railroad in 1904. In 1936, the Bay Bridge opened and a decline in freight traffic caused the line to move its traffic to the Southern Pacific in 1978. In 1979, the railway gave the land to the cities it ran through. In 1964, BART broke ground and the Fremont line opened in 1972. The Richmond line opened in 1973 after a delay by the Berkeley voters, who decided to tax themselves to put the line underground and opened the Transbay Tube in 1974.</p> <p>The Ohlone people, also known as the Costanoan, are a native people of the central California coast.</p>
