Police Calls: Home Burglaries, Transient Trouble, Olfactory Assault

The Albany police log for May 27-28 includes two home burglaries, an altercation involving a transient at Curtis and Solano, dog and cat attacks, lawn lights uprooted, a father's old firearm, two non-injury accidents and two arrests.

The following information was obtained from the Albany Police Department's daily incident log and its arrest reports.

Monday, May 27

Non-injury accident 
– At 1:16 p.m., police logged a report of a non-injury accident involving two vehicles at Buchanan and Pierce. Disposition: Log note only.

Father's old firearm – At 1:29 p.m., a person in the police lobby said he wanted to turn in his father's old firearm, which was still in its lock-box in the reporting party's truck. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Lawn lights uprooted – At 2:06 p.m., police received a report of lawn lights being pulled out of the ground sometime during the previous evening on Tulare. The reporting party wanted to advise the police department and did not desire a report. Disposition: Log note only.

Smelly carcass – At 3:07 p.m., A person reported a dead animal in the lawn-trimmings green bin. The reporting party said it's "very smelly" and can't wait until the garbage pick-up on Friday. Berkeley Animal Control is closed because of the holiday (Memorial Day). The reporting party contacted Waste Management, which was not helpful. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Drunk/disorderly arrest – At 3:44 p.m. police arrested a person found sleeping on Key Route.

Grand theft – At 5:36 p.m., police received a report of a catalytic converter taken sometime during the night on Garfield. Disposition: Case report taken.

Altercation with transient – At 7:11 p.m., police received a report of an altercation five minutes earlier between a transient man who stays at the corner of Curtis and Solano and the reporting party, who said the transient threatened to fight the reporting party and then put his hands on the reporting party, who departed. Disposition: No police action warranted at this time. 

Non-injury accident – At 8:32 p.m., police received a report of a parked vehicle being hit overnight on Washington. The responsible driver left a note. The reporting party wants a report. Disposition: No police action warranted at this time. 

Residential burglary – At 10:10 p.m., police received a report of a residential burglary on Madison between 4:30 p.m. and the time of the report. Disposition: Case report taken.

Tuesday, May 28

Non-injury accident 
– At 8:48 a.m., police received a report of non-injury accident involving two vehicles on Portland. Disposition: Log note only.

Outside warrant arrest, citation – At 3:41 p.m., a person was arrested and cited on an outstanding warrant at San Pablo Avenue and Harrison.

Cat attacked by dog – At 3:58 p.m., a reporting party in the lobby said the reporting party's cat was attacked by a dog on May 18. Disposition: Case report taken.

Dog vs. dog – At 7:03 p.m., police received a report of a "dog on dog attack" at Portland and San Carlos. Disposition: Log note only.

Residential burglary – At 7:24 p.m., police received a report of a residential burglary on Solano between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Disposition: Case report taken.
