Police Calls: Suspicious AT&T Visit, Tossed Object Smashes Moving Vehicle Window

The Albany police logs for Aug. 12-13 include a Safeway shoplifter, suspicious AT&T visitors, a female grabbed by the hair after she flipped off an unknown male who made a sexual remark, and a metal object falling from the BART tracks.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Monday, Aug. 12

Tailed by police vehicle 
– At at 9:47 a.m., police received a report that two police vehicles, one a dark gray unmarked vehicle and and the other a marked patrol car, were scouting the reporting party on Portland while he walked his dog. Disposition: Log note only.

Electric saw set up on sidewalk – At 10:24 a.m., police received a complaint that a contractor had set up a table with an electric saw on the sidewalk on Madison. Disposition: No police action warranted at this time.

Battery on female at Albany High – At 2:17 p.m., a father told police that an unknown male in his 20s made a sexual remark to his daughter at Albany High, that the daughter flipped him off and that the male grabbed her by the hair. The daughter, who was not with the father when he contacted police, does not want to involve police. Disposition: Case report taken.

Found cell phone – At 3:56 p.m., a person in the police lobby reported she found a cell phone in front of her residence on Jackson. Disposition: Log note only.

Bike stolen – At 7:15 p.m., police received a report of a gray hybrid bike stolen within the last hour on Kains. Disposition: Case report taken.

Suspicious "AT&T" workers – At 9:01 p.m., police received a report that three people who said they were front AT&T went to the door a 91-year-old woman on Garfield around noon today and said they wanted to come inside to check the phone line. The woman refused. The woman did not want to call police, according to the reporting party, a concerned neighbor who had just found out about it and wanted to advise police of the incident. Disposition: Log note only.

Metal object falls from BART track – At 10:54 p.m., police received a report that an unknown metal object fell from the BART track along Masonic. Disposition: Log note only.

Tuesday, Aug. 13

Parole, probation violation arrest – At 12:01 a.m., police arrested a male in the 1100 block of Ordway on suspicion of violating parole and probation. The arrest followed an 11:49 p.m. report of a man inside a neighbor's vehicle on Ordway.

Person taking recycling warned
– At 4:31 a.m., police received a report of a person with a flashlight going north on San Carlos and going through recycling cans. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.

Window smashed by object from erratically driven vehicle
– At 9:29 a.m., police received a report of a back window being smashed out of an SUV under the Buchanan overpass about 20 minutes ago by something tossed from another vehicle that was swerving in and out of traffic, went through a stop sign and was last seen going east on Buchanan and then north toward El Cerrito. The reporting party was not able to obtain a license plate and no description of the driver was provided. Disposition: Case report taken.

Home entered without permission
– At 12:18 p.m., police received a report that a representative of the homeowners association and someone that the reporting party said was posing as a fire inspector came into her unit without her permission while she was there. Disposition: Log note only.

Safeway shoplifter
– At 2:25 p.m., police received a report of petty theft at Safeway. The reporting party believes the stolen items were unknown healthcare products. The suspect was described as a black male in his 30s wearing a blue baseball cap, black shirt with a red stripe and dark pants, and carrying a dark bag. He was last seen going east on foot on Solano. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Warrant arrest at Waterfront – At 2:39 p.m., police arrested a male at the Albany Waterfront on an outstanding warrant.

Arrest on Stannage 
– At 8:19 p.m., police logged the arrest of person at a dentist's following an officer-initiated check of pedestrian on Stannage.
