Police Calls: Multiple Store Thefts, Visually Impaired Person Pushed Down

The Albany police log for May 15-16 includes a stolen car, two arrests for alleged theft at Target, two arrests for alleged possession of drug paraphernalia, a woman who couldn't pay for her meal and squirrels checking on a dead companion.

The following information was obtained from the Albany Police Department's daily incident log and its arrest reports.

Wednesday, May 15

Recovered stolen vehicle
– At 10:27 a.m., police logged a report of a recovered stolen vehicle from Oakland on Kains. Disposition: Case report taken.

Copper theft – At 11:33 a.m., police logged a report of an older man in dark blue clothing, possibly homeless, taking coppe on Cleveland. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.

Dog bite 10 days earlier – At 1:03 p.m., a person reported a dog bite at Washington and Adams 10 days before. Disposition: Log note only.

Theft at Target – At 1:11 p.m., police logged a report of petty theft at Target involving two women, one of whom concealed items in her purse in the fitting room. They departed in an Audi. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – citation issued.

Twice-lost wallet – At 4:39 p.m., a person reported having left a wallet the day before at Sunny Side Cafe on Solano. An employee called the reporting party and said the wallet was there, but when the reporting party went to retrieve it today, the restaurant said it's not there. Lost were ID, credit cards and $100. Disposition: Log note only.

Cell phone stolen at Am/Pm – At 5:16 p.m., police received a report of someone at Am/Pm on San Pablo setting down a phone that was swiped by an unknown person who departed in an unknown direction. Disposition: Log note only.

Injured pedestrian – At 6:44 p.m., police received a 911 call of a female victim in the roadway with a head injury on southbound San Pablo after being hit by vehicle. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Thursday, May 16

Outstanding warrant arrest 
– At 1:08 a.m. police arrested an Albany male at Solano and Madison on an outstanding warrant.

Auto burglary – At 8:16 a.m., police received a report of burglary of a vehicle parked in a carport on Kains. Disposition: Case report taken. 

Beer taken at Jay Vee Liquors – At 9:54 a.m., police received a report of man who took beer from Jay Vee Liquors on San Pablo at 9:14 a.m.. The suspect was described as white, wearing a blue jacket, black pants and glasses. The reporting party has the theft on video. Disposition: Log note only.

ID theft – At 10:16 a.m., police received a report of fraudulent charge accounts opened at Lowe's and Walmart in the name of an Albany man. Disposition: Case report taken.

Auto theft – At 10:26 p.m., police received a report of the theft of a vehicle that was parked at 8:30 p.m. in a parking spot at apartments on Brighton. Disposition: Case report taken.

Non-injury accident – At 10:53 a.m., a caller reported a non-injury accident on Buchanan at the Buchanan Interchange. Disposition: Log note only.

DUI, drug paraphernalia arrests – At 11:11 a.m., police arrested a Berkeley male and an Albany female at Dartmouth and Key Route. The male was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, and both were arrested on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia.

Theft arrests at Target – At 12:39 p.m., police arrested two Berkeley females at Target, one on suspicion of grand theft and one on suspicion of theft. One of the suspects said she was having a panic attack but did not want medical attention.

Dead squirrel traffic hazard – At 1:09 p.m., police received a report of a dead squirrel on Portland near Sizzler with other squirrels coming out to check on it and causing a traffic hazard with swerving vehicles. Disposition: Log note only.

Woman at restaurant can't pay – At 1:32 p.m., police received a report of an elder female ustomer at White Lotus Thai Cuisine on San Pablo without money to pay for her meal. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.

Found backpack – At 6:43 p.m., a found black backpack was left in the police lobby. Disposition: Log note only.

Non-injury accident – At 7 p.m., police logged a report of a running vehicle hitting a tree and parked vehicle on Evelyn. Disposition: Case report taken.

Visually impaired person battered – At 10:57 p.m., a visually impaired person reported being pushed down by another person on a path near the Orientation Center for the Blind on Adams. The victim fell off the curb, hit the assailant with a cane and suffered a scraped hand. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.
