Rash of Graffiti on Cars, Structures in Albany

At least six cars and two structures were tagged with spray paint in Albany Saturday night or early Sunday morning, with six on one block of Carmel Avenue, police said. No suspects have been identified.

At least half a dozen cars, a retaining wall and a garage door were tagged with spray paint in Albany on Saturday night or early Sunday morning, police said.

The tagging was concentrated in the 900 block of Carmel Avenue, with six of the eight known incidents located there, said Albany Police Detective Sgt. Art Pasoglingnan. Also reported was a car tagged in the 1000 block of Curtis and an apartment building garage door tagged in the 1400 block of Solano, he said.

Numerous calls about the spray-painted vehicles began pouring into Albany police at 8:53 a.m. Sunday, according to the department's call logs.

Police have not heard from any witnesses or received any information about the taggers, he said.

The rash of tagging on a residential street was unusual in Albany where such graffiti tends to be concentrated along or near the railroad tracks, he said.

Three males from Oakland were arrested the previous weekend at 12:51 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, on suspicion of tagging the south wall of Albany Steel Inc. at 540 Cleveland Ave., according to Albany police logs.

Pagsolingnan said there was no apparent connection between the tagging at Albany Steel and the tagging this past weekend.
