Information Kiosk Receives New Window

The Dario Meniketti Kiosk has received a new south facing window thanks to the generosity of Bill Essert of Wooden Window located in Oakland, CA.

The Albany Community Foundation (ACF) reacting to the desire expressed by community members to have an information kiosk worked with award winning local architect David Arkin to create this unique structure. In addition to donating his design skills, David worked with other community members including members of the Lions Club to actually build the kiosk in 2004. Named after Dario Meniketti, a long time Albany resident and champion of civic engagement, the kiosk holds information about civic meetings and other public events as well as offering a space for nonprofit organizations to share their activities.  The Kiosk is located on the northwest corner of Solano and Curtis Streets.

Albany Community Foundation members continue to maintain the kiosk, including caring for the plants which grow underneath it.  The window on the south side had been repaired several times, but due to the harsh climate it faces, it finally needed to be totally replaced.  When contacted by ACF for assistance on this project, Mr. Essert immediately agreed to donate a brand new window.  Within a few weeks of the initial discussion on what would be needed, the new window was built to suit its climate and installed by community members.

“Thanks for opportunity to work with the Albany Community Foundation. We were pleased to provide the window for this important community resource. When you see the finished work, you will notice that we took the time to upsize the styles and rails and used a sustainable Mahogany wood so this southern facing window will last for many more years.”
