Police Calls: Gun in Sock, Employee Theft, Car Shot with Paintballs

The Albany police logs for July 26 include a stolen company van, the bus stop robbery earlier reported by Patch, a female followed by four men, an employee theft of $100 at Goodwill, a stolen bike and a mother's gun found in a sock.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Friday, July 26

Company van stolen – At 5:53 a.m., police received a report of a company van stolen taken on Talbot between midnight and the time of the call to police. Disposition: Case report taken.

Bus stop robbery – At 8:31 a.m., police received a report of purse taken by a robber in a hoodie at Sante Fe and Solano. No weapons were involved. The robber got into small red hatchback driven by another person and departed southbound on Sante Fe. Disposition: Case report taken. (Editor's note: Albany Patch published an article on July 30 about this robbery, "Woman Robbed of Purse at Albany Bus Stop.")

Suspicious circumstance – At 1:05 p.m., police were contacted by a person whose friend called two hours ago saying four men were following her. The line went dead and the reporting party was unable to make contact. The friend's last known route to the dog park near Golden Gate Fields from Gilman. Disposition: Log note only.

Purse found at Memorial Park – At 2:31 p.m., police logged a "flagdown of officer" report at Memorial Park where a purse was found. Disposition: Log note only.

Dumping red paint into a waterway – At 4:42 p.m., police received a report of a red house dumping red paint into a waterway. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.

Employee theft at Goodwill – At 5:02 p.m., police received a report of $100 missing from the register last night. The store's loss prevention system has a video of the responsible person, an 18-year-old employee who is at work now and wearing a Goodwill apron. The store wants prosecution. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Mother's gun found in sock – At 6:04 p.m., a person reported finding the gun belong to her mother, who has dementia, in a sock on Pierce. The reporting party would an officer to pick up the gun for destruction. Disposition: Case report taken. 

Bike stolen – At 7:03 p.m., police received a report of a mountain bike taken from the Brittany Arms on Kains by man who was smoking. The suspect – described as black, 45 years old, 5-feet tall with light gray eyes, carrying a black bag and wearing at gray t-shirt with white writing on the front and dark blue jeans – was last seen going north on Stannage. Disposition: Log note only.

Car on freeway shot with paintballs – At 10:02 p.m., a motorist told police that the front passenger in another vehicle carrying four people at I-80 and Buchanan shot at the reporting party's green Jeep Cherokee multiple times with a paintball gun, striking the vehicle first toward the rear and then 2-3 times in the side. The shooter's vehicle continued east on I-80. Disposition: Assistance given to outside agency.
