Police Calls: More Trouble at Target, Arrests, Vandalism

The Albany police log for May 17 includes a DUI arrest, juveniles arrested for drugs, Albany pool vandalism, and a bad check and a suspicious circumstance at Target.

The following information was obtained from the Albany Police Department's daily incident log and its arrest reports.

Friday, May 17

DUI arrest
– At 12:49 a.m., police arrested an Albany male in the 700 block of San Pablo on suspicion of driving under the influence and having a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or more.

Auto vandalism 
– At 8:43 a.m., police received a report of driver's side mirror smashed the previous night on a vehicle on Washington. Disposition: Log note only.

Albany pool vandalism – At 9:55 a.m., police logged a report of 15 kids throwing bottles onto the desk of the outside pool at the Albany Aquatic Center around 2:59 a.m. The reporting party has video. Disposition: Case report taken. Tablet taken from vehicle – At 10:25 a.m., police received a report of a Motorola XOOM tablet taken 10 minutes earlier from a vehicle whose window was slightly down at Taco Bell on San Pablo. Disposition: Log note only.

Hit and run – At 10:37 a.m., police received a report of a smashed mirror on a vehicle parked on Stannage sometime during the evening. An unknown mirror was on the floor, possibly belonging to the other vehicle. Disposition: Follow-up complete.

Loud music complaint – At 3:47 p.m., police received a disturbing-the-peace complaint of loud music at Building C on Pierce Street. Security has talked to the subject three times, and the reporting party requests that an officer contact the subject. Disposition: Log note only.

Texting while driving – At 4:13 p.m., police received a report of a female in a white head scarf texting while driving at Solano and San Pablo. Disposition: Log note only.

Bad check at Target – At 6:18 p.m., police logged a report of a bad check passed by a man who provided a Pennsylvania ID. Disposition: Case report taken.

Suspicious circumstance at Target – At 10:06 p.m., police received a report of a woman trying to return unpurchased items at the guest services counter at Target. Another woman was outside. Disposition: Matter or reported situation checks out O.K.

Drug arrests – At 11:46 p.m., police logged an officer-initiated check on five juvenile pedestrians at Solano and Ramona. Disposition: Arrest made. [Editor's note: The information above comes from the police call log. The arrests were not on the police arrest log. The Journal reported that the arrested persons were a 16-year-old El Cerrito boy, a 17-year-old boy from El Sobrante and a 17-year-old boy from Richmond, all on suspicion of drug possession.]
